If you think that machine to machine (M2M) technology is something out of a 1950’s science fiction story, guess again. Modern technology in everything from automobiles to telephones is almost totally reliant on inter-device communication. In fact, you may already be using devices that use M2M technology without even realizing it.

One of the most common M2M Applications in the consumer world is found in late model automobiles. M2M technology is at the core of automotive concierge services like OnStar. When a damaged vehicle uses global positioning satellite (GPS) technology to phone in its location to a central communications hub, which then relays the information to local police or fire departments, that’s M2M technology in action. It’s multiple devices sending messages to one another and acting on that information, independent of human interaction.

Of course getting all of these different systems to communicate is not a simple matter. GPS systems, phone and automobiles all operate on different operating systems. That’s why network designers employ Virtual Machine Monitoring, which is a layer of network architecture that gets all the various operating systems on one page before sending the data on to its next stop.

So the next time you use OnStar to make restaurant reservations, you can appreciate the machines making all the magic happen.

Good news for Nokia fans because the world’s largest mobile phone vendor is likely to soon use high-speed processors made by Intel. If the news is circulating properly, before the end of the year will release its first mobile phone.

The second generation of Intel Atom processors previously codenamed Moorestown was officially available starting 05/04/2010. Intel claimed the first phone that will use these processors will be available later this year and use MeeGo platform, open source operating system based on the result of the merger between Intel and Nokia Maemo Moblin.

“You’ll see devices with Meego and Moorestown at the end of 2010,” said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs Intel mobile internet devices as reported by site Pocket-Lint. He was not sure whether the first mobile phone is Nokia.

However, implicitly Nokia said the same. Nokia spokesman told that they will use MeeGo for their instrumentalities later this year. He also stated that Nokia hope to produce the first MeeGo device later this year. If true, Nokia will shift the LG.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is updating the Internet Explorer 9 (IE 9). Earlier, in mid-March, Microsoft is committed to updating IE9 every eight weeks to issue a public beta. This company still refuses to disclose the timeline for the plan or the final beta version of next-generation browser.
